New Flexible Working Policy/Procedure

We have updated the Flexible Working policy and procedure following a change in legislation. The new policy, procedure and request forms have been uploaded to the Family Leave Support Portal.

The legislation changes with effect from 6 April 2024:

  • Allows up to two requests per year for staff (there is no limit to the number of requests an officer can submit under Police Regulations 2003)
  • Sets a two month statutory timeframe from submission of the request through to a decision being made (and includes any appeal being heard and concluded)
  • Requires the manager (at any stage) to consult with the individual and explore alternative options prior to rejecting a request. The Act removes the requirement for you to explain the impact of your request to the Force.
  • Applicable to officers and staff
